60g Cocoa Butter – I use Raw Unrefined Cocoa Butter, the cocoa butter can be substituted for Shea Butter.
30g Shea Butter - Shea Butter is hailed for its healing, protecting and moisturising properties.
As Shea Butter is quite Soft when including Shea Butter in this recipe I like to still include Cocoa butter to maintain the firmness of the melt. I also reduce the oil content by a minimum of 5ml to prevent the oil separating when cooling.
30ml of my Green Seasoning Oil – I tend to use my own oil blend for my cosmetic products (see homemade Hair/Body Oil Blog) however Almond Oil, Coconut or Jojoba Oil also work just as well.
Add 5 Drops of Vitamin E
Polysorbate 80 – A lot of experts recommend using Polysorbate 80 as it aides in the blending of the oils and water, to prevent pooling. As a result I sometimes include 6g of Polysorbate. Calculated as 5% of the total weight of the Butters and Oils.
Dried Flowers – I usually use a mix of rose petals and dried lavender however camomile flowers can also be utilised.
Essential Oils – I usually tend not to use essential oils as I like the natural smell of the Cocoa Butter or if I do, I use 2 teaspoons of Oatmeal or Peppermint essential Oil. Other Essential Oils that can be added include Vanilla, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Peppermint, or Bergamot, with Amazon providing an amazing range of starter packs?
Silicone Mould – I mainly Use small heart and star shaped silicone moulds bought from Amazon to make small tins of melts. However, I also like to make Jumbo sized melts using my flower moulds.

HomeMade Double Boiler
Instructions
1) Add the Cocoa, and Shea Butter along with the carrier oil into a glass measuring Jug.
2) Create a Double Boiler by placing the Glass measuring jug in a pot containing approximately 3 inches of water.
3) Heat the water to melt the butter and oil giving this a good stir once all the butters are completely melted.
4) Now add the Polysorbate 80 and any fragrance oil to the melted butters and carrier oil and mix-together.
5) Add the Vitamin E to slow down the oxidation of the melts and extend the products shelf life by acting as a natural preservative suitable for homemade products.
6) Now add you desired fragrance oil
6) Add your dried Rose petals or lavender to the silicone moulds.
7) Pour the melted butters and oil into the Silicone moulds.
8) You will notice that this will cause the Rose Petals to sink and the lavender buds to rise.
9) Place your moulds in the freezer until the liquid hardens ensuring you don't allow your melts to freeze about an hour will do. This will aide in reducing the Shea Butter from becoming grainy due to the differing fat molecules cooling at different rates.
10) Move you melts to the fridge and allow them to fully set, next unmold your Bath Melts, and place in a nice container for later use. Your bath melts can be stored at room temperature but I like having my heating on full blast so opt to keep my melts refrigerated.
Guess What? – We’re all done super easy and quick providing you with a special treat using all-natural products to elevate your daily bathing experience from routine to luxury treat.
The only thing left to do is......
Run a Bath, Drop in a few Bath Melts, Relax and Enjoy.
